This includes our main hospital, which spans 8 floors and houses 234 beds and 10 operating theatres, including a state-of-the-art hybrid theatre, alongside dedicated centres such as the Duchess of Devonshire Wing Cancer Centre, our Eye Centre, and outpatient consulting suites.
We provide a wide range of medical and surgical services, supported by leading consultants and experienced multidisciplinary teams. Our focus is on delivering personalised care, working as one team, and consistently going further for our patients.
We employ over 1,000 staff across clinical and non-clinical services, all contributing to a safe, high quality and patient focused environment.
The Role
This is a senior, specialist role within the Health and Safety team, acting as the lead authorised person for fire safety across The London Clinic.
You will take ownership of fire safety strategy, compliance, and operational delivery, ensuring robust prevention, preparedness, and response across all sites. This is a highly visible role that works closely with Estates, Projects, and operational teams, influencing decision making and ensuring fire safety is embedded across all services.
This role would suit an experienced Fire Safety professional who is confident operating in a complex environment, ideally healthcare, and who enjoys balancing technical expertise with a pragmatic, solutions focused approach.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on fire risk assessment actions, ensuring all identified risks are addressed effectively to maintain a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors
Provide expert advice on fire legislation and standards, ensuring the organisation remains fully compliant with current regulations including the Building Safety Act 2024
Interpret and apply fire safety guidance in practical settings, supporting teams to implement safe and workable solutions across a complex estate
Review and develop fire safety policies and procedures, ensuring they remain current, robust and aligned to organisational needs
Design and deliver fire safety training programmes, equipping staff with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in emergency situations
Carry out fire safety inspections and audits, identifying gaps and driving continuous improvement in fire safety standards
Develop and maintain fire prevention and emergency evacuation plans, ensuring preparedness across all sites and services
Investigate fire related incidents and alarm activations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence
Work in partnership with Estates and Projects teams, ensuring fire safety is embedded from the outset in all developments and refurbishments
Liaise with external authorities and internal stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment on all fire safety matters
Key Requirements
Level 4 qualification in Fire Safety or equivalent
Proven experience in a fire safety role within a complex organisation, ideally healthcare
Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation, including the Building Safety Act 2024, British Standards and relevant guidance
Experience carrying out fire risk assessments, inspections and audits
Ability to develop fire safety policies, procedures and emergency plans
Experience delivering fire safety training to a range of audiences
Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
Experience working collaboratively with Estates, Projects and Health and Safety teams
Practical, solutions focused approach with strong attention to detail
