Job Purpose:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Automotive CAD Engineer with specialized experience in Seating Soft Trim to join our dynamic engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and integration of soft trim components for automotive seating systems, ensuring alignment with aesthetic, ergonomic, and manufacturing requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for seating soft trim components (e.g., covers, foams, stitch lines, headrests).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, materials, and quality to ensure feasibility and compliance with specifications.
- Interpret and implement design intent from styling data and engineering requirements.
- Support prototype builds and production launches by providing accurate CAD data and resolving design issues.
- Conduct tolerance analysis and ensure manufacturability of soft trim components.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical input to improve product quality and performance.
- Maintain documentation and version control of CAD data in PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Enovia).
- Liaise with suppliers and external partners to ensure timely delivery of components and design data.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in automotive CAD design, specifically in seating soft trim.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as CATIA V5/V6, Siemens NX, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes related to soft trim (e.g., leather, fabric, foam, stitching).
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Familiarity with automotive industry standards and regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with digital mock-up (DMU) and packaging studies.
- Knowledge of ergonomic and comfort design principles.
- Exposure to sustainability and lightweighting initiatives in seating design.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. xwzovoh
