About the role
Our client, a leading company in aerospace manufacturing, is currently seeking a Certification Engineer (Design & Certification) to join their team in Portsmouth, UK. This is a permanent role within the rapidly evolving aerospace sector, dedicated to designing and manufacturing mission-critical aerospace equipment used worldwide in both commercial and defence sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
Translate customer requirements into technical solutions and certification strategies
Support bids and sales through technical proposals and compliance matrices
Design and develop products using 2D/3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA or similar)
Lead certification activities, including test plans, reports, and compliance documentation
Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure feasibility and cost-efficiency
Support production and quality on non-conformances and root cause analysis
Coordinate with suppliers for development and testing activities
Participate in project reviews, customer meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives
Job Requirements:
Experience in design & certification engineering, with an aerospace focus strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of certification standards (EASA / FAA / CAA, DO-160, CS-27/29)
Solid understanding of design for manufacture & aerospace materials
Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.
Experience with GD&T and technical drawings
Strong problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Desirable Skills:
Experience with root cause analysis (8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa)
Lean / Six Sigma exposure
Familiarity with PLM / ERP systems
Experience in Part 21 / Part 145 environments
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering
