About the role

Full Time (Part Time Considered) Maternity Cover We are seeking an enthusiastic and resilient Teacher of Science to join a dedicated team on a maternity cover basis from September 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a small, specialist SEMH secondary setting, where strong relationships, clear structure and high-quality teaching make a genuine difference to young people’s lives. The Role You will deliver engaging and well-structured science lessons to small classes of secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The role will involve teaching across KS3 and KS4 (Combined Science), with a strong emphasis on safely delivering practical experiments and adapting lessons to meet individual needs. Key Responsibilities * Plan and deliver high-quality science lessons across KS3 and KS4 * Deliver practical experiments with a strong focus on health & safety and risk assessment * Create a calm, consistent and supportive learning environment * Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to support behaviour and engagement * Work collaboratively with support staff, SEND professionals and pastoral teams * Monitor student progress and adapt teaching to meet individual needs About You * Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or an experienced unqualified teacher * Confident in delivering practical science lessons * Experience of, or strong interest in, working with pupils with SEMH needs * Calm, flexible and solution-focused approach * Strong behaviour management skills * Committed to safeguarding and supporting vulnerable learners Salary * Qualified Teachers: £33,045 – £45,802 per annum * Unqualified Teachers: Competitive salary (dependent on experience – details upon application) What’s on Offer * Small class sizes with high levels of support * A collaborative and experienced staff team * Ongoing professional development in SEMH and trauma-informed practice * The opportunity to make a real and lasting impact Safeguarding This role is subject to enhanced DBS checks and satisfactory references.
