SEN Teaching Assistant – Mainstream Secondary School
Location: Brent, London
Salary: £100 – £101.10 per day
Job Type: Full Time, Temporary
Start Date: September 2026
Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training. Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.
We are seeking multiple proactive and resilient SEN Teaching Assistants to join a mainstream school in Brent. This is a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to support pupils with a range of additional needs across Key Stages 3–5. There is potential for additional appointments, making this an excellent opportunity for experienced SEN support staff.
This role requires individuals who can think on their feet, adapt quickly, and confidently support pupils, including those who may present challenging behaviour.
The Role
• Provide in-class support for pupils with Special Educational Needs
• Work closely with teachers to adapt learning and ensure accessibility
• Deliver targeted interventions on a 1:1 and small group basis
• Support pupils social, emotional, and behavioural development
• Implement behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
• Build positive, supportive relationships with pupils
• Contribute to EHCP targets, support plans, and progress tracking
• Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals
Requirements
Essential:
• Experience working with children or young people with SEN
• Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
• Confidence supporting and managing challenging behaviour
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Calm, patient, and resilient approach
Desirable:
• Experience within a mainstream school setting
• Understanding of EHCPs and intervention strategies
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practice
• Relevant TA qualification (Level 2/3 or equivalent)
