Location: Hinckley, Leicestershire (Hybrid working available)
Contract: Permanent, 37 hours per week

About the role
Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council is seeking an experienced Senior Democratic Services Officer to play a key role in supporting the Councils democratic, decision making and governance processes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled democratic services professional with strong knowledge of local government law, governance, constitutional arrangements and committee management to work at the heart of local democracy.

What you will be doing
Supporting the Councils democratic and decision making processes, including Council, Executive, regulatory and scrutiny committees and working groups
Providing professional governance and constitutional advice to members and officers
Managing and developing the decision management system
Maintaining forward plans, calendars of meetings and scrutiny work programmes
Supporting overview and scrutiny activities, including task and finish groups
Providing support to members and the civic function
Supporting the corporate complaints process

About you

You will be a confident and organised professional with substantial experience in a democratic services or governance environment.
Essential criteria

Significant experience in democratic services, governance or committee administration
Strong knowledge of local government legislation, constitutions and political processes
Experience advising elected members and senior officers
Experience managing committee management systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and tight deadlines
Political awareness, discretion, tact and diplomacy
