Principal Surveyor (Property and Projects)
Temporary, Full Time (initial 3 months)
Day Rate: £500.00 per day (umbrella)
Location: Tendring, Essex

An interim opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Surveyor (Property and Projects) to join a local government organisation on an initial three‑month contract. This role requires the successful individual to attend the office a minimum of two days per week.
This is a fast‑paced role suited to a senior property professional who can deliver effectively from day one, supporting estates management activity, property transactions, and capital projects while ensuring full compliance with statutory and corporate requirements.
The Role
The Property and Projects service is seeking an experienced Principal Surveyor to provide senior professional support across a diverse property portfolio and a range of live capital projects.
You will deliver high‑quality professional advice to senior officers and elected members, support service continuity, manage complex caseloads, and contribute to reporting and decision‑making processes. The role also involves preparing basic specifications for repair works and providing leadership within the team, including deputising for the Property and Projects Manager when required.
Key Responsibilities
Provide senior professional surveying support across property, estates, and capital project activity
Manage property transactions, development projects, and construction/repair works
Prepare specifications for maintenance and repair works
Ensure compliance with relevant statutory, regulatory, and corporate requirements
Provide clear, high‑quality professional advice and reporting to senior officers and Members
Support service delivery and continuity during the interim period
Provide leadership within the Property and Projects team and deputise for senior management as required
Essential Experience and Skills
Relevant surveying qualification or equivalent professional experience
Proven ability to deliver effectively in a public sector environment
Strong communication, influencing, and decision‑making skills
Ability to manage competing priorities in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced setting
Experience managing property portfolios, estates work, and capital projects
Availability to attend the office in Clacton‑on‑Sea at least two days per week
