Job Specification Job Title: Poultry Handler Area: Norfolk Shift Pattern: Sunday to Thursday (23.00pm till 9am) Temp Ongoing Salary: £14.00 to £21.00 ph. Also paid while traveling from farm to farm Profile My client is looking for Poultry Handlers to join there team Chicken Catcher (or Poultry Handler) is responsible for the manual or assisted capture and loading of live birds for transport or relocation. This role is essential for poultry farming, requiring high physical stamina and a commitment to animal welfare Key Responsibilities • Catching & Loading: Safely catch chickens by hand or using specialized tools like leg hooks. • Animal Welfare: Ensure birds undergo minimal stress and avoid "malpractices" like smothering. • Loading: Place birds into modules, crates, or drawers correctly for transport. • Biosecurity & Hygiene: Follow strict onsite rules to prevent disease spread, including wearing clean PPE. • Record Keeping: Assist in maintaining accurate logs of bird health or numbers. • Maintenance: Clean and disinfect work areas, crates, and equipment. Working Conditions • Physical Demands: The job involves long hours on your feet, repetitive lifting, and working in fast-paced environments. • Environment: Often involves dimly lit barns (to keep birds calm), loud noises, and exposure to ammonia smells or dust. • Schedule: Typically includes early morning, late-night, or weekend shifts to align with processing schedules.
