About the role
Make a real difference, one small step at a time
At NCHA supported living service Highfield Street, Coalville, you’ll support young adults aged 18–25 with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs as they transition into adulthood. This is a long‑term supported living service, where relationships, consistency and trust are built over time, not rushed.
This is a fast‑paced, rewarding and emotionally intelligent role where teamwork and values matter just as much as skills.
What you’ll be doing
No two days are exactly the same, but your role will include:
* Supporting young people to build independence and life skills
* Prompting and reminding around medication, daily routines, college or work
* Offering guidance with cooking, cleaning, shopping, budgeting and paying bills
* Encouraging personal care while promoting dignity and choice
* Following and contributing to clear, consistent support plans
* Maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with your team
* Supporting individuals with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities and EUPD (Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder)
* Working calmly and professionally during periods of emotional distress
What really matters in this role is working as part of a supportive, consistent team. You’ll never be expected to manage challenges alone; teamwork, regular debriefing and reflection are essential to how the service operates, ensuring colleagues support one another and learn together.
Consistency and clear boundaries are especially important, particularly when emotions run high. You’ll need to be resilient, have the ability to remain calm under pressure, prioritise tasks effectively, and maintain professionalism throughout your shift.
Just as important is knowing how to leave work at the door at the end of the day, protecting your own wellbeing so you can continue to support others compassionately and safely.
The rewarding moments you’ll love
* Seeing small but meaningful changes over time
* Watching service users build trust and confidence
* Helping people try new things and believe in themselves
* Growing your own confidence, communication and resilience
What you’ll bring with you
You don’t need to know everything - but you do need the right mindset.
You’ll have:
* Resilience, patience and emotional maturity
* Compassion and a genuine belief that people can be supported to change
* Strong communication and listening skills
* Insight into trauma and long‑term mental health needs
* Creativity when problem‑solving
* A sense of ownership and responsibility
* The ability to stay calm and empathic under pressure
This is an opportunity to work within a long‑term service where you can build genuine, trusting relationships and see the real impact of your support over time. You’ll be part of a strong, supportive team that values peer support, reflection and shared learning, while also benefiting from ongoing development opportunities. Most importantly, this is a role where your compassion, resilience and values truly matter, and where the work you do makes a meaningful difference every single day.
