We are looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded specialist school in Wetherby. This school is a "non-maintained" specialist setting with a rich heritage, specifically designed for children and young people (ages 4-19) with a range of needs, including hearing impairments, autism, and communication difficulties.
The school is a calm, sensory-friendly environment that focuses on building resilience and self-acceptance.
Role Details
- Location: Boston Spa (LS23)
- Hours: Monday - Friday (Full-Time, Term Time Only)
- Pay Rate: £98 - £140 per day (dependent on experience)
Key Responsibilities
- Providing tailored support to pupils with sensory impairments, speech and language challenges, or autism.
- Working in small class sizes (usually no more than 8 students) to ensure high-quality, individualised attention.
- Assisting in the implementation of EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) and supporting therapeutic goals.
- Helping students develop independence and confidence in a "total communication" environment.
- Collaborating with an in-house team of experts, including Speech and Language Therapists and Audiologists.
Skills & Experience Required
- An interest or experience in supporting those with communication barriers (knowledge of BSL is a bonus but not essential).
- A patient, nurturing approach to managing different learning and emotional needs.
- The ability to work closely with specialist teachers and therapeutic staff.
- Previous experience in a SEND environment or a care-based role is highly preferred.
Essential Requirements
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for a new one).
- Confirmed eligibility to work in the UK.
- Two professional references (covering the last 24 months).
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
