Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical Bias) Location: Stowmarket Salary: Circa £55K + Shift Bonus and Overtime Shift Pattern: Continental (4 on 4 off) Industry: Heavy Plant Manufacturing The Role We are seeking a skilled and proactive Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical Bias) to join our team within a heavy plant manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving plant equipment, with a primary focus on mechanical systems, to maximise uptime and ensure safe and efficient operations (OEE). We are looking for someone motivated by key engineering principles of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement. Your focus will be on Early Equipment Management (EEM) in manufacturing and how this impacts Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), with the aim of improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness. Key Responsibilities Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on heavy plant and production equipment Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, conveyors, and bearings Perform mechanical strip-downs, rebuilds, and component replacements Support electrical fault finding on motors, drives, sensors, and control systems when required Minimise downtime through effective problem-solving and root cause analysis Assist in continuous improvement and equipment reliability projects Ensure all work is carried out in line with health & safety regulations and company standards Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation Participate in shift handovers and communicate effectively with production teamsRequirements Strong mechanical background (essential) Recognised engineering qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent) Experience in a heavy plant, manufacturing, or industrial environmentKnowledge of: Mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, pumps, and drives Bearings, alignment, lubrication, and power transmission systems Basic electrical fault finding (motors, sensors, control systems) Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical documentation Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills A proactive, team-focused approach with good communication skillsDesirable Experience with preventative maintenance systems (CMMS) Welding and fabrication skills Basic PLC fault-finding experience Mechanical installation and project experienceWhat We Offer Competitive salary with overtime opportunities Huge discounts with company benefits membership package Company pension scheme Training and development opportunities Career progression within a growing organisation Supportive and safety-focused working environmentApply Now If you are a motivated multi-skilled engineer with a strong mechanical bias looking to work in a dynamic heavy manufacturing environment, we’d love to hear from you.
