About the role
A leading engineering organisation specialising in the design and manufacture of bespoke automation and robotic solutions is currently seeking an experienced Controls & Commissioning Engineer to join their growing team.
Working across a variety of industries including automotive, plastics, medical and healthcare, the company is recognised for delivering innovative automation solutions to complex engineering challenges. Due to continued growth and a strong order book, they are looking for an experienced engineer to support the programming, commissioning and development of advanced automated machinery.
The Role
As a Controls & Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for the development, commissioning and support of bespoke automation systems from concept through to installation. The role will involve working both at the company’s facility and at customer sites across the UK, with occasional overseas travel.
Key responsibilities include:
Programming, commissioning and developing special purpose automated machinery and robotic systems.
PLC and HMI programming, development and fault finding.
Commissioning machine control systems and supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
Diagnosing and resolving electrical, control and safety system issues.
Developing machine processes to achieve required performance standards.
Programming and integrating robotic systems including 6-axis, SCARA and Delta robots.
Carrying out installation, servicing, modifications and enhancements to existing systems.
Providing customer training and technical support.
Working closely with customers, suppliers and internal engineering teams.The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be an experienced multi-skilled engineer with a strong background in automation machinery and control systems.
You will ideally have:
Minimum 5 years’ experience working with automation equipment or special purpose machinery.
Strong hands-on engineering skills with the ability to understand both mechanical and electrical systems.
PLC programming and troubleshooting experience with platforms such as Siemens, Omron, Allen Bradley, Beckhoff or B&R.
Experience integrating and programming industrial robots (6-axis, SCARA or Delta) would be advantageous.
Electrical qualifications and experience working with machine electrical systems.
Experience fault finding control systems, sensors, safety circuits and automation equipment.
Understanding of pneumatic systems and circuits.
Experience interfacing with injection moulding machines would be beneficial.
A flexible, self-motivated approach with a willingness to travel and work away when required.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with customers and engineering teams.This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Controls Engineer to join a successful automation business working on innovative, technically challenging machinery projects
