About the role
Location: London (City)
Package: Competitive + performance-related incentives
The Firm
Culbert Ellis is a ranked, employee-owned boutique law firm with offices in London and Cambridge, advising growth companies, funds and entrepreneurs on high-stakes matters across corporate, commercial, disputes and investigations and in specialist sectors including construction, technology, media and hospitality.
Our model is deliberately different: clients work directly with senior lawyers who bring clear judgement, commerciality and decisive advice - “your team in the room” when it matters most.
The Opportunity
Culbert Ellis is looking to recruit an experienced financial services regulatory solicitor to work alongside our business crime and civil recovery team.
We already act in complex matters involving proceeds of crime, asset forfeiture, restraint, confiscation, fraud, money laundering, and regulatory investigations. We would now like to add a solicitor with an established practice in financial services regulation and enforcement.
The role would suit a senior solicitor who has their own client relationships and a portable book of work, and who is interested in developing their practice within a specialist and entrepreneurial firm.
We are particularly interested in candidates whose work includes some or all of the following:
- FCA investigations and enforcement proceedings;
- anti-money laundering and financial crime;
- internal investigations and remediation;
- market abuse and insider dealing;
- advice to firms, directors, senior managers and MLROs;
- SMCR, fitness and propriety and individual accountability;
- regulatory issues affecting fintech, payments, cryptoassets and digital-asset businesses;
- financial promotions and perimeter issues; and
- parallel regulatory, criminal and civil proceedings.
The successful candidate would work closely with our existing team where matters involve both regulatory and criminal issues, or where investigations lead to restraint, forfeiture or recovery proceedings.
We are looking for someone who is already well established in the market. They should have a strong technical background, good client relationships and a proven ability to generate and retain work. A portable following is an important part of the role.
Why Join Us?
Culbert Ellis offers a high degree of autonomy and the opportunity to play a significant part in the development of the firm. The successful candidate will take a seat on our board, and be provided with the support to build a broader contentious regulatory practice.
We offer:
- Employee-owned structure aligning long-term incentives with firm success
- Flexibility in pricing and delivery (including innovative fee arrangements)
- International platform via global alliances for cross-border work
- A genuine opportunity to shape and lead a growing practice
- Ready team of experienced junior lawyers to support development and growth of the practice
