Yard Operative

KMC Recruitment are working with a well-established business within the hire sector to recruit a Yard Operative for their Reading depot. This is a hands-on operational role responsible for maintaining an organised, safe, and efficient yard environment while supporting stock control, parts management, and the smooth day-to-day running of the depot. The successful candidate will play an important part in keeping operations moving properly behind the scenes. It’s ideal for somebody who likes structure, takes pride in keeping things organised, and notices when things are out of place before everyone else starts panicking about where the part has disappeared to. The Role You’ll be responsible for supporting the depot operation through effective yard organisation, stock management, and equipment handling. Responsibilities will include: * Organising and maintaining the depot yard to a high standard * Managing stock levels, parts, and equipment locations * Assisting with goods in and goods out processes * Loading and unloading vehicles safely and efficiently * Supporting workshop and operational teams with parts and equipment requirements * Carrying out regular stock checks and reporting shortages or discrepancies * Ensuring equipment is stored safely and correctly * Maintaining good housekeeping standards across the yard * Supporting depot teams with general operational duties where required * Following all Health & Safety procedures and site rules at all times What We’re Looking For Essential: * Forklift License * Previous experience working within a yard, warehouse, depot, or hire environment * Good organisational skills and attention to detail * Ability to work within a fast-paced operational environment * Strong team-working attitude * Reliable and proactive approach to work Desirable: * FLT licence * Experience within plant, tool, welfare, or accommodation hire * Knowledge of stock control or parts management systems * Full UK driving licence What’s on Offer * Monday to Friday working pattern * Stable long-term opportunity * Supportive depot environment * Varied hands-on role within a busy operation * Opportunity to develop within the hire industry For more information or to apply confidentially, contact KMC Recruitment today
