B2B SaaS | Hybrid – 2-3 days office | UK    Type:  Full-time    Accessible rail travel depends on systems that work reliably in live environments.    Our Passenger Assistance platform turns passenger assistance requests into coordinated action inside live rail operations.    We are hiring a Mid-Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to own and evolve our operational systems, ensuring stability and production reliability in close collaboration with cross-functional teams.    Transreport exists to remove structural barriers in rail travel. Our vision is that everyone has access to travel everywhere.    As a Series A technology company and recipient of a King’s Award, we operate across the UK, Japan and the EU, delivering award-winning accessibility and safety platforms that have supported over 10 million assistance requests for more than 1 million users.    As our operational demands grow, our backend systems must support increasing integrations, regulatory complexity, data volume, and reliability expectations.      Take ownership of two operational Rails platform.  Improve database performance and background job efficiency.  Reduce operational risk across TOC integrations.  Strengthen CI/CD reliability and deployment confidence.  Contribute to longer-term backend architecture improvements and scalability planning.          Maintain and improve our Ruby on Rails applications supporting operational workflows.  Technical Quality:  Write clean, well-tested code and uphold strong security and data integrity standards.  Manage third-party integrations, ensuring reliable and secure data exchange.  Infrastructure Collaboration:  Work with the Platform team on AWS-based deployments and CI/CD processes.  Performance & Reliability:  Optimise background processing and database performance to maintain system stability.  Partner with Frontend and Mobile engineers to deliver robust, scalable APIs.  Contribute to improving deployment practices, monitoring, and long-term maintainability.  Operational Accountability:  Act as the technical owner of production systems that directly impact live rail operations, ensuring high availability and rapid incident resolution.    4+ years of professional experience with Ruby on Rails.  ~ Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and Rails architecture  ~ Extensive experience with PostgreSQL, including performance tuning and complex queries.  ~ Hands-on experience with AWS services and containerised deployments (Docker).  ~ Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.  ~ Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with Git/GitHub.    Experience working with SOAP/XML integrations.  AWS Lambda) into Rails applications.  Familiarity with Vue.js to support frontend collaboration.  Experience working with mobile applications (React Native / Kotlin / Swift).  Contributions to open-source Ruby projects or technical blogging.      Private healthcare after your probation (including children) ~ Hybrid working model  ~25 days holiday  ~ People are expected to raise risks early, communicate clearly, and take responsibility for outcomes.        Technical Exercise  – Rails architecture & integration discussion  # We’re a Disability Confident employer and we welcome applications from disabled candidates.
