SEMH Teacher (Key Stage 3/4) Halifax Job Title SEMH Teacher - Key Stage 3/4 Reports To Headteacher / Assistant Headteacher / SENCO Salary MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance (where applicable) Contract Type Full Time / Permanent Location Halifax Job Purpose To plan, deliver and assess high-quality teaching and learning for pupils in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will create a safe, nurturing and engaging learning environment that supports pupils to achieve both academically and personally. The role involves working closely with pastoral teams, therapists, families and external agencies to promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, resilience and successful outcomes for learners with additional needs. Key Responsibilities Teaching and Learning Plan and deliver differentiated lessons that meet the diverse needs of pupils with SEMH needs and associated learning difficulties. Adapt teaching strategies to engage disaffected and vulnerable learners. Create a positive, inclusive and trauma-informed classroom environment. Assess, monitor and record pupil progress in line with school policies. Prepare pupils for qualifications appropriate to their needs and abilities. Use behaviour management strategies effectively to support learning and emotional regulation. Behaviour and Pastoral Support Develop positive and professional relationships with pupils built on consistency, trust and respect. Support pupils in managing behaviour and emotional challenges. Implement behaviour support plans, risk assessments and intervention strategies. Promote attendance, engagement and positive attitudes to learning. Act as a form tutor/key worker where required. SEND and Safeguarding Contribute to EHCP reviews, annual reviews and target setting. Work collaboratively with the SEND team and external professionals. Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times. Maintain accurate records relating to pupil welfare, progress and behaviour. Partnership Working Build positive relationships with parents/carers and professionals. Attend meetings, reviews and multi-agency discussions as required. Contribute to whole-school improvement and enrichment activities. Professional Responsibilities Maintain high professional standards and uphold school values. Participate in CPD, supervision and staff training. Support colleagues and contribute positively to the wider staff team. Person Specification Essential Criteria Qualifications Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent. Degree or relevant teaching qualification. Experience Experience teaching Key Stage 3 and/or Key Stage 4 pupils. Experience working with pupils with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour. Experience managing behaviour positively and effectively. Knowledge and Skills Understanding of SEMH needs and trauma-informed practice. Strong classroom management skills. Ability to differentiate learning effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to build positive relationships with hard-to-reach learners. Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection. Personal Qualities Resilient, calm and adaptable. Empathetic and nurturing approach. Team player with a positive attitude.
