C&I Wire Person / Panel Builder Employer: UK Atomic Energy Authority Location: Culham Campus, Abingdon, Oxfordshire Contract: 1 year (Inside IR35) Rate: £26.00 per hour (Umbrella) Work Type: Full-time, onsite About the Role We are seeking a skilled C&I Wire Person / Panel Builder to support operations at the MAST-U facility, a leading experimental fusion research environment. This hands-on role involves working across multiple engineering teams, supporting a wide range of control and instrumentation systems. You will split your time between workshop-based panel building and on-plant industrial work, contributing to the construction, testing, fault-finding, and repair of critical systems. Key Responsibilities * Build, assemble, and wire control & instrumentation panels, cubicles, sub-racks, and electronic systems * Carry out fault-finding, diagnostics, and repairs on C&I systems (with and without formal test procedures) * Perform bench testing and in-situ testing on operational plant equipment * Support installation, maintenance, and commissioning activities across site systems * Work closely with Plant Responsible Officers (PROs) to resolve technical issues * Undertake procurement, build, test, and commissioning of new equipment * Carry out precision wiring work, including delicate instrumentation such as thermocouples * Produce and maintain technical documentation, including safe systems of work * Take ownership of assigned tasks and deliver to required standards What We’re Looking For Essential: * C&G 2330 Level 3 in Electrotechnical Technology or equivalent (ONC/HNC Electrical/Electronic Engineering accepted) * 18th Edition Wiring Regulations * Apprenticeship-trained background * Industrial experience with 3-phase power systems * Experience in both workshop and industrial environments Key Skills: * Strong control & instrumentation (C&I) panel building experience * Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic ability * Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and technical drawings * High attention to detail for precision instrumentation work * Confidence working independently and taking ownership of tasks * Strong understanding of safe working practices in industrial settings About the Environment You will be working within a highly specialised engineering environment supporting fusion energy research at the MAST-U facility, collaborating with multi-disciplinary engineering teams in a safety-critical, technically challenging setting.
