We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Technical Services Manager.You’ll be a hands-on senior engineering lead and people manager, responsible for modernising the mainframe developer experience and SDLC across the UK, USA and Mexico, shifting teams from traditional mainframe SCM to a GitHub-centred model, standardising tooling and “golden paths”, and improving productivity through automation and responsible AI-assisted engineering while owning end-to-end delivery of developer tooling capabilities (including production-grade APIs), acting as a senior technical escalation point, and leading a team of 5–8 engineers.You’ll collaborate with Product Owners and Delivery Managers to standardise practices and deliver a consistent developer experience. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.In this role you’ll:Lead features from design build test release operational readiness, contributing directly through coding and code reviewsEstablish and uphold standards for maintainability, security, reliability, and observability across the mainframe DevEx/tooling estateAct as senior escalation for complex build/deploy/tooling issues across UK/US/Mexico, driving root-cause fixesDefine and deliver a measurable DevEx roadmap—faster onboarding, fewer manual steps, clearer standards, improved feedback loops, and productivity gainsBuild and maintain standard templates and practices (e.g., repo standards, branching strategy, build/deploy patterns, documentation) adopted consistently across regionsLead the shift from traditional mainframe SCM approaches to a GitHub-centred model, embedding PR-based change control, code review discipline, branch protections, automated quality gates, and auditable release patternsEngineer and standardise a secure, supportable, scalable toolchain for source, build, artefact, and deployment across regions; design and deliver production-grade APIs wrapping SDLC/platform tooling (clear contracts, versioning, resilience, observability)Introduce and scale AI-assisted engineering practices with safe working and review expectations; run structured pilots, quantify outcomes, and scale what works across UK/US/MXTo be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:Hands-on mainframe engineering (z/OS SDLC) with a strong delivery background in a controlled enterprise environmentTraditional mainframe SCM expertise with working knowledge of Endevor/Changeman-class (or equivalent) including promotion models, packages, approvals/audit trails, and segregation of dutiesDemonstrated experience moving teams to GitHub-based engineering (branching models, PR governance, repo standards, automated checks/quality gates)Proven experience building or enabling platform/operating services on the mainframe, with understanding of how services run across online and batch processingExperience delivering APIs for engineering consumption with clean contracts, security, logging/monitoring, error handling, and versioningProven line management experience leading engineers and owning outcomes (ideally managing 5–8 engineers)Ability to drive adoption and remove blockers across multiple countries/regions, time zones, and organisational boundariesAbility to quickly pick up new technologies across mainframe and distributed stacks and translate them into practical team adoptionOpening up a world of opportunityBeing open to different points of view is important for our business and the communities we serve.
