Location: Hull Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Competitive, depending on qualifications and experience Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8:00am 4:15pm, Friday, 8:00am 4:00pm Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Technician, Mechanical Fitter, Workshop Engineer or Field Service Engineer who enjoys helping others learn? We are recruiting for an experienced mechanical professional to deliver practical engineering training to apprentices and adult learners from a well-established training centre in Hull.

You do not need to be a qualified teacher to apply.

If you have strong mechanical industry experience, the confidence to explain practical engineering tasks, and a genuine interest in supporting learners, full support will be provided to help you develop into the instructor role.

You will support apprentices and adult learners with the core skills, standards and behaviours they need to succeed in engineering.

This will include helping learners understand safe working practices, mechanical maintenance, workshop methods, fault finding and real-world engineering expectations.

The role will involve: Delivering practical mechanical engineering training Supporting apprentices and adult learners in a workshop and training centre environment Teaching safe use of hand tools, workshop equipment and engineering processes Delivering training around planned and reactive maintenance Supporting learners with hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical fault finding Demonstrating lathe, milling and workshop-based skills Helping learners understand health and safety, isolation, risk and professional standards Monitoring learner progress and providing constructive support and feedback Travelling between training sites and employer sites when required We are looking for This role would suit someone with a strong hands-on mechanical engineering background who is ready to move into training, mentoring and learner development.

You may currently be working as a: Mechanical Engineer Mechanical Maintenance Engineer Maintenance Engineer Mechanical Technician Mechanical Fitter Workshop Engineer Field Service Engineer Plant Engineer Heavy Mechanical Engineer Engineering Supervisor Process Technician with strong mechanical experience We are particularly interested in candidates from mechanical maintenance, manufacturing, process, plant, ports, marine, cranes, heavy engineering, commercial vehicles, industrial maintenance, workshop or field service environments.

The benchmark candidates who progressed strongly had credible hands-on backgrounds across process plant, mechanical maintenance, hydraulics, pneumatics, heavy equipment, mentoring, safety and apprentice development.

You will need experience in some or all of the following: Mechanical planned and reactive maintenance Mechanical fault finding, repair and problem solving Hydraulics and/or pneumatics Safe use of hand tools and workshop equipment Lathe and/or milling machine operation Health and safety practices and procedures Supporting, coaching, mentoring or training others Essential requirements Level 3 Engineering qualification or equivalent Strong practical mechanical engineering experience Good communication and interpersonal skills Basic computer confidence Full UK driving licence Own vehicle, as travel between sites and employer locations will be required Right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship Teaching or assessor qualifications are desirable but not essential.

The core requirement is credible engineering experience, a professional approach and the ability to pass knowledge on in a clear, safe and supportive way.

The role specification also highlights planned/reactive maintenance, lathe/milling, hand tools, hydraulics or pneumatics, health and safety, Level 3 engineering and a driving licence as key requirements.
