Data Platform Engineer

We're looking for an experienced Data Platform Engineer to join a major transformation programme within a large enterprise technology environment. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development, operation and optimisation of a modern cloud-based data platform, supporting critical business initiatives and delivering scalable data capabilities. The Role As a Data Platform Engineer, you'll work alongside Data Architects, Data Engineers and other technical specialists to support the ongoing evolution of a cloud data platform built on Microsoft technologies. You'll be responsible for ensuring platform reliability, performance and scalability while contributing to the delivery of strategic data projects. Key Responsibilities: Develop, maintain and optimise cloud data platform capabilities Manage platform performance, capacity and availability Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve platform incidents and service issues Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures Support the delivery of scalable data solutions across Azure and Microsoft Fabric Implement Platform as Code and DataOps best practices Monitor platform health and respond proactively to operational issues Support analytical workloads and business adoption through Power BI Collaborate closely with engineering, architecture and platform teams Contribute to continuous improvement of processes, standards and procedures Skills & Experience Required Previous experience in a Data Platform Engineer, Cloud Engineer or similar role Strong experience supporting and operating cloud-based data platforms Commercial experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Azure data services SQL Server administration and management experience Experience handling incidents, problem management and change requests within SLA-driven environments Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills Ability to work effectively in complex and fast-paced environments Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills Desirable GitHub and GitHub Actions Terraform and Infrastructure/Platform as Code Cloud monitoring and observability tooling Alerting and operational monitoring platforms Cloud cost management and optimisation Zero Trust architecture experience Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
