About the role

Field Service Engineer

Birmingham- London area

Salary: £45,000 + Company Car + Benefits

We're currently recruiting for a Field Service Engineer to join the UK service team of a well-established international organisation. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with a strong electro-mechanical or mechatronics background to join a growing business, offering a competitive package, ongoing training and a varied, hands-on role.

Location & Travel

You'll be travelling regularly to customer sites. The majority of projects are located along the A1 corridor between Birmingham and London, with regular travel and occasional overnight stays required.

The Role

Reporting to the Service Manager, you'll be responsible for carrying out technical interventions, maintenance, inspections and commissioning activities across customer sites. You'll work with automated equipment and shuttle-based systems, supporting installations that operate using bi-directional movement.

This role requires a strong understanding of both mechanical and electrical systems. While mechanical expertise is important, candidates must also demonstrate solid electrical and electro-mechanical troubleshooting capabilities.

The position offers a high level of autonomy, regular customer interaction and the opportunity to take ownership of your work.

Important: Candidates with purely mechanical experience are unlikely to be suitable. We are particularly interested in engineers who can confidently diagnose and resolve electrical and electro-mechanical faults.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out repairs, modifications and fault-finding on existing installations.
Diagnose and resolve electro-mechanical and mechatronic issues.
Perform planned preventative maintenance and technical inspections.
Support the commissioning of new installations.
Coordinate on-site activities, contractors and installation teams where required.
Act as the main technical point of contact for customers during site interventions.
Identify potential issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
Prepare accurate technical reports following site visits.
Ensure all work complies with health, safety and quality procedures.
Support the inspection, completion and handover of works.

What We're Looking For

Previous experience in field service engineering, industrial maintenance, automation or technical installations.
Strong electro-mechanical expertise and/or a mechatronics background.
Good electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
Experience working with automated equipment or shuttle-based systems would be advantageous.
A relevant technical qualification in electrical engineering, electromechanics, mechatronics, industrial maintenance or a related discipline.
Appropriate electrical safety qualifications or authorisations.
A full UK driving licence.
Flexibility to travel regularly to customer sites, including overnight stays when required.

What's on Offer?

£45,000 annual salary
Company car
25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
Company pension plan
Paid overtime in accordance with applicable UK legislation
Comprehensive training and development
The opportunity to work within an international organisation
A supportive and enthusiastic team environment
A varied role with autonomy and responsibility
