Prototype Technician

Location: Maidenhead
Hourly Rate: £30 per hour PAYE / £40 per hour umbrella
Were working with a well-established manufacturing business who are looking to bring an experienced Prototype Technician into their team. This is a hands-on role, supporting the build and development of low-volume and prototype products across both electro-mechanical and PCB assembly. This position would suit someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working closely with engineering teams to bring new products to life.
As a Prototype Technician, youll be responsible for building and assembling a range of prototype and low-volume products. Duties will include: Electro-mechanical assembly of complex products and sub-assemblies
PCB assembly including both through-hole and surface mount soldering
Working from engineering drawings, schematics and build instructions
Supporting prototype builds, testing and product development activities
Fault finding, debugging and reworking assemblies where required
Assisting engineers with design improvements and build feedback
Wiring, crimping and cable assembly work
Carrying out quality checks to ensure builds meet required standards
Maintaining a clean, organised and ESD-compliant workspace
To be successful in this Prototype Technician role, youll need:
Proven experience in a prototype, R&D, or low-volume manufacturing environment
Strong electro-mechanical assembly skills
C onfident PCB assembly experience, including through-hole and surface mount soldering
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
Experience with wiring, looms and cable assemblies
Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail and quality-focused approach
Comfortable working independently and as part of a wider engineering team
Desirable:
IPC certification
Experience working within an R&D or development environment
Exposure to testing or basic electronics diagnostics
